How to Use Your Crystals: Top FIVE Tips for Intentional Crystal Use

Crystal healing doesn’t have to be complicated or elaborate! They are rocks, after all. As a certified Crystal Energy Healer and daily crystal user, here are my TOP FIVE tips for intentional crystal use:

  1. Wear your crystals for all day support: The easiest way to use crystals for their healing properties would be to wear them as jewelry or carry them in your pockets. When picking out your jewelry for the day, keep the qualities of the crystals in mind, setting your intentions for the day. Remember that each color corresponds with a different type of energy. Big test? Try using Red Jasper to improve your memory and focus. Date night? Rose Quartz and Unakite will boost your feelings of love and appreciation for your partner. Going to the gym? Put a chunk of carnelian in your pocket for motivation and increased passion.
  1. Protect your energy: When you come into contact with negative energy (a friend in a bad mood, a haunted or negatively charged location, or even just a bad feeling) crystals can help you remain free from the negative influence. Black crystals placed around your home, in your pockets, or worn as jewelry can help ward off unwanted energy and absorb negativity. Crystals have been used for protection for hundreds of years, this is their fav job!
  1. Balance unruly or heavy emotions: Sometimes it can feel like we are constantly swinging from negative energy to positive, good luck to bad luck, or even just stuck in one extreme or the other. Using crystals to balance energy is ultimately a form of spiritual healing. Use crystals that are OPPOSITES to balance your energy field. For example: Use opaque crystals as well as translucent crystals, and colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel, like black / white, blue / orange, and yellow / purple OR a crystal with 2 opposite colors within it, like a nice orange-blue Sodalite or a black-white Zebra Jasper.
  1. Cleanse your crystals often: Crystals should be cleansed after you wear them out all day, after you use them for healing purposes, if they’re just feeling dull, or if they have been in contact with any negative energy. Cleanse =/= water!!!!!! Just to be safe, unless you do a ton of research first, it’s best to just avoid water as a cleansing method for crystals. Use water for your altar, yourself, but try to keep it away from your crystals. Smoke cleansing with incense, leaving them outside in the  moonlight, or storing them with a piece of selenite are popular methods of cleansing. Just use whatever method feels best to you. It is also a good idea to avoid direct sunlight if at all possible. Sunlight can cause some stones to darken, fade, or become brittle and break. Spirit Quartz can even ignite if left in the sun too long.
  1. Purchase your crystals from ETHICAL SOURCES!! Unfortunately, we live in a society where greed rules our commerce. As crystals have gained popularity, they have become a way for many people to make a quick buck at the expense of our Mother Earth. Our healing tools are often being mined by children, or underpaid workers being exploited by mine owners and forced to work in deplorable conditions. These mining companies often do not care about the huge negative environmental impact they make, either. Certain stones are being mined until they disappear out of the Earth completely. Larimar, for example, is no longer being mined because it’s becoming too scarce. The crystals you see on Temu and Wish for a penny are so so so sad… if you respect these crystals as divine teachers and healers, you’ll understand why purchasing them from ethical sources is so important. Secondhand stones are my specialty, and it soon may be the ONLY ethical way to purchase crystals.

There are about a million more ways I can think to use crystals, but these will get you started! Keep it simple, and let your intuition be your guide. Take what resonates and leave the rest, it’s okay to pick and choose what’s right for you!
